Portrait of Allison Henry

Allison Henry is a contemporary artist working in abstract painting. Her work explores emotional distance as an active, sustaining force rather than an absence. Layered atmospheric fields and soft geometry examine where longing resides, how boundaries form, and how separate selves remain in relationship without collapsing into one another.

Space functions as a participant in the paintings: protective, charged, and intentional, holding tension, restraint, and intimacy. Restrained palettes and tactile surfaces let foreground and background shift emotional weight between what is held and what recedes. Rather than seeking resolution, the work lingers in proximity and in the subtle negotiation between closeness and autonomy, allowing emotional weight to exist without demand or spectacle.
